Winterville - Hazel Christine Madden Erwin, 83, widow of Henry Marshall Erwin, died July 3, 2009.
Born in Elbert County, she was the daughter of the late John Waco Madden and Effie Lee McKelly Madden and was preceded in death by several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Erwin was formerly employed with Thomas Textile, General Time and was retired from Vend Inc. She was known for having life filled with love of faith, family, nature and her country. She had a gift for cooking and was always thinking first of others. Her spirit will live throughout those blessed enough to have been part of her life's journey.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Erwin Hansford and her son-in-law, Bill Hansford of Cumming; her grandsons, Brian Hansford and his wife, Lauren of Roswell, and Jason Hansford of Athens; her great-grandsons, John Hansford and Will Hansford of Roswell; her brothers, Paul Madden of Cumming and Albert Madden of Elberton; and her sister, Sue Hancock of Winterville.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Athens Memory Gardens with the Rev. Bill Hayes officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House or the American Cancer Society .
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
