Harvey Hall Westbrook, age 77, passed away peacefully and comfortably at his home, surrounded by his loved ones on October 20, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.
Harvey was born on May 17, 1947, in Athens, Georgia and was the first-born son to the late George and Joan (Harvey) Westbrook of Ila, Georgia. He was a 1965 graduate of Madison County High School, attended South Georgia College, and graduated from The University of Georgia in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1968 to 1974. In 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet Phillips, and they were married for 57 years. They have two children Phillip Westbrook(Catherine), Atlanta and Janna Westbrook Bates, Ila.
Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife and his two children, include his grandchildren, Kaylee Bates (Joel Thacker), Brady Bates, Will Westbrook, and Matthew Westbrook, and his siblings Cauthen Westbrook (Joan), Sally Bolemon (Mike Smith), Lee Westbrook (Marsha), and his brother-in-law Ted Adams. He is preceded in death by his sister, Janis Adams.
Harvey was an expert carpenter having learned the skill from his father, and after many years of building homes, he became a self-taught architect. His commercial and residential designs are evident throughout Athens-Clarke County and surrounding counties.
Harvey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who loved his family. He found great joy spending time with his family, telling stories with his siblings, “The Westbrook Five,” and watching his grandchildren play sports. Everyone who knew Harvey adored him because of his respectful nature, kind heart, wittiness, trustworthiness, and his love of antique cars. He found much happiness riding on his tractor and cruising in his ’64 Corvette and ’67 GTO.
