Harry Reed Sims, 75, husband of 55 years to Sharon Baker Sims, died on January 27, 2025.
A native of and longtime resident of Oconee County, Mr. Sims was the son of the late Billy Sims and Jewell Huff Sims and brother to the late Jim Sims. He was a 1967 graduate of Oconee County High School and a 1972 graduate of the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1970-1976. Harry was an active member of Hebron Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was co-builder of the church building in 1980. He was the first president of the Oconee County Recreational Depart and coached his children in basketball and softball. He also coached the women's softball team at Hebron. He loved playing basketball and softball himself as well. Harry was a longtime builder in Oconee County. In his retirement years, he built a house on Lake Oconee, which became the hub of many family gatherings. He enjoyed hosting family and friends for fishing, boating, and swimming. In his final years, Harry became an avid sunset photographer.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters: April Sims (Ken) Culp and Jamie Sims (Tony) DiRenzo; sisters: Barbara Downs and Sandra Skaggs; sisters in law: Sandra Carlyle (Shane) and Sheila Garrett; six grandchildren: Mason, Drew, Samantha, Macy (Peter), Abi and Anna Kate along with God-grandchildren Grace and David Michael and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Hebron Christian Church at 3PM with Pastor Gordon Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hebron Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Sims memory may be made to Hebron Christian Church Building Fund.
