Harry Samuel Burch

Harry Samuel Burch, 75, of Watkinsville, GA died on October 6th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, Bob, Jim and Frank. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, his daughter, Laura (her husband Mark), his brother, Mike and his sisters-in-law, Mary and Donna.

Harry was born in Hartsville, SC to the late Leo Harold and Mary Etta Burch. As a young man, Harry moved to Athens, GA to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned a Bachelors of Business Administration. After enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving his country both stateside and in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, Harry returned to the University of Georgia to begin his life-long career in the Computer Operations Department. He worked his way up through Operations and into Systems Analysis at the University, where he became lovingly referred to as the ‘mainframe guru’.

Harry made the Watkinsville/Athens area his home, and when away from the University was an avid sports enthusiast, both as a spectator and a participant. He was passionate about golf and spent many an afternoon on the golf course with friends. He remained a loyal Georgia Bulldog, cheering on his Dawgs through two National Championships. Harry's sharp wit delighted friends and family and he was known for the comedic relief he could bring to any occasion. Harry had a warm, kind soul and was a blessing to those who were fortunate to know him.

There will not be a formal service at this time. The family will receive friends and family Wednesday, October 12th from 5pm-7pm at Lord and Stephens East.
