Harold R. Thomas, Jr., 87, died August 8, 2011.
A native of Athens, GA, he was a son of the late Rupurt and Clyde Harrison Thomas. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter Harold "Buck" Thomas and a brother, Henry Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a veteran of the United States Army. His service during World War II including storming the beach at Normandy and many other battles en route to Berlin. Among other awards, he received the Bronze Star for his efforts to provide ammunition to the front lines. Mr. Thomas was a farmer and also owned and operated H. R. Thomas Store for over thirty-five years.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST, with Rev. Larry Davison officiating. Interment will be in Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-nine years, Ernestine Thomas; two daughters, Kay (Bernard) Garrett of Statham and Linda Thomas Bond of Bogart; siblings, Asa Thomas of Bogart, Faye Doster, Joe Thomas, Ted Thomas and Roy Thomas; grandchildren, Allen (Becki) Garrett, Simon Garrett, Eli Garrett, Katie Garrett, Jesse (Jennifer) Bond; great grandchildren, Garrett Bond, Emmaleigh Bond, Kaleigh Bond and Alex Strickland.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
