Bishop - James Harold Parsons, 79, died January 29, 2009.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Al and Maggie Dickens Parsons. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Barnett Parsons, and second wife, Faye Parsons.
Mr. Parsons founded Parsons Brothers Market with his brother, Henry, which they operated for 25 years. He was a traveling gospel singer with the Dixie Two and member of Fellowship Baptist Church. Mr. Parsons served on the Bishop City Council for 50 years and was the longest serving city councilman in Georgia. He was a member of Creekside (Green Hills) Country Club and the Green Hills Men's Club.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Briarwood Baptist Church with Revs. Tony Long and Dan Fuller officiating. Interment will be in Bishop Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Athens-Clarke County Fire Department Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oconee County Fire Department Honor Guard and Green Hills Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Parsons; children, Clay (Sharon) Parsons, Mark (Sandi) Parsons, Ken (Anita) Parsons and Tonya Parsons (Jeff) Bell; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Fellowship Baptist Church.
