Harold Malcom Kelly, Jr., age 63, a lifelong resident of Athens, died suddenly at his home on Thursday, February 4th, 2016. The son of Julia Elizabeth Smith Kelly and Harold Malcolm Kelly, Sr., he was born in Athens on November 10, 1952 and graduated from Athens High School in 1970. He attended UGA. He had a lifelong love of nature. Harold enjoyed Formula One Racing, loved the Georgia Bulldogs and had a passion for Rock and Roll. He was a fixture at concerts by the starters of the Athens music scene. Long before the 40 Watt Club he supported Randall Bramblett, the Normaltown Flyers, and many other groups that laid the ground work for the rich Athens music scene.
He is survived by his sister, Jane Kelly Desso and her husband, Robert B. Desso of Watkinsville, his nephew David Richard Desso and his wife, Dr. Rebecca Terry Rowsey Desso of Salt Lake City, his niece Rebekah Elizabeth Desso Thompson and her husband, Joshua Eli Thompson, of Athens. He was the uncle of the late Jonathan Robert Desso. He leaves many cousins and friends. A private burial will be held.
