Harold Grady Barton, 73, died Saturday, September 2, 2006.
Born in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Artemus Grady and Loyce Bennett Barton. Mr. Barton lived most of his life in the Athens area and was a graduate of Winterville High School. Mr. Barton's career in sales began with L.B. Price Mercantile. He then founded American Home Supply and Furniture Mart, both of which he operated for a number of years, followed by a long career in automotive sales. Mr. Barton was a member and past president of Cherokee Euduro Riders Association and a member of Southeastern Enduro and Trail Riders Association. He was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Tuckston United Methodist Church with Dr. Sheila Bookout and Rev. Paul Hannah officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara Ferguson Barton; children, Michael Harold Barton (Debbie) of Gainesville, GA, Russell B. Barton (Kathy) of Athens and Melanie Barton Harrison (Walter) of Acworth, GA; 6 grandchildren Matthew Barton, Katie Barton, Dylan Barton, Cason Barton, Clark Harrison and Hayden Harrison.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, EAST on Lexington Road, Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and Tuesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM.
