H. Gene Seagraves, 77, of Danielsville, passed away on May 9, 2011, surrounded by those he loved. Born in Madison County on August 15, 1933, he was the son of the late George T. Seagraves Sr. and Mary Wynn Seagraves. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force. After serving his country, he returned to Madison County where he raised his family of four girls. He retired from Wickes Lumber Company and Armstrong & Dobbs. He was member of Moons Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and trustee. Mr. Seagraves is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hassie Rice Seagraves; daughters and their spouses, Annette Seagraves, M.D., of Colorado Springs, Mike and Montie Burroughs, of Danielsville, Joe and Sylvia Thornton, of Winterville, and Ron and Sharon Foster, of Danielsville; grandchildren, Christopher and Carrie Burroughs, Boomer Preston, Peyton and Landon Foster, and Joely Thornton; and step-grandchildren, Joshua Thornton and Jessica Thornton. He is also survived by a sister, JoAnn S. Manley, Ed. D., of Milledgeville; and a brother and sister-in-law, G.T. and Geraldine Seagraves, of Danielsville. The family will receive friends and loved ones 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at Lord & Stephens, Danielsville. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Moons Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Dan Fuller and Rev. Tom Dial officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Nelson Carey, Nolan Carey, Nathan Carey, Ricky Strickland, Kevin Rowe and Danny Chandler. Honorary Pallbearers are Neal Carey, Thomas Manley, George Manley, Bruce Manley, Warren Seagraves and Brian Turner.
