H. Winston Berryman

October 9, 1928 — September 30, 2011

H. Winston Berryman, of Colbert, Georgia passed away Friday, September 30, 2011. He was born on October 9, 1928, the 6th child of 8 children born to Jasper and Aulena Moon Berryman of Comer, Madison County, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, Winston is preceded in death by his older brothers, J.J, William Timothy (W.T.,), Ansley, Clyde; a younger brother Joe Mack; sister Wylene, and brother-in-law, Jim Blankenship. And most recently, in November 2009 the love of his life, Mae Vandiver Berryman.
Winston is a Veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Air Force Rescue Squad. He was stationed in Ohkido, Japan and achieved the rank of staff Sergeant. Winston returned to Marietta, GA where he worked for the Marietta Fire Department while attending the University of Georgia. He and Mae met and were married in October 1954 in Martin, Ga. Two years later, Mae and Winston moved to the Hull area to continue Winston's studies; and he graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.A Accounting in June of 1958.

Winston, now with a family to support, soon found employment as a Comptroller for Webb-Crawford Food Distribution Company, Athens, Ga; and later at Russell Daniel Irrigation, Athens, GA retiring in 1992.


Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Teri Berryman of Hull, GA; brother and sister-in-law Vernon & Nell Berryman of Hartwell, GA; sister-in-law Mary Carter Berryman of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law Jenny Carter Berryman of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law Jeannette Paul Berryman of Comer; GA; and four nieces and four nephews and their families. Special thanks to caregivers, Claudia, Barbara, Janice and Karen.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Lord & Stephens Chapel, Danielsville, with Rev. Brad Wilson officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be Steve Berryman, Clark Berryman, Charles Heard, Jim Patton, Alan Marcengill, Joe Humphrey, Chad Marcengill and Jamie Patton. Internment will follow in Colbert City Cemetery along side his beloved wife of 55 years, The family is at the home of Tim and Teri Berryman.
