Guy Brannon Scott, III, died in Athens on July 7, 2014, after a long illness. Brannon was born in Athens on November 10, 1947, the son of the late Guy B. Scott, Jr., and the late Elizabeth Tate Scott. He graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic School and Athens High School. He attended Mercer College in Macon. He went on to live in Ohio, Illinois, California, Hawaii, and Michigan, before returning to Athens in 2001. In addition to Brannon being a professional chef and a great friend to many, he was a larger than life character that few who knew him will forget.
The funeral will be held 11AM Thursday, July 10th at the Catholic Center, 1344 Lumpkin Street with Fr. Thomas F. Vigliotta, ofm presiding. Burial will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his brother Carter Tate Scott. He is survived by his son Tyler Wood Scott of Swartz Creek, MI; two brothers, Howard Tate Scott and Thomas Wells Scott (Lori) of Athens; three sisters, Elizabeth Scott Atkinson (Gary) of Saint Paul, MN, Saunders Scott (Andy Hirshfield) of Cottage Grove, OR, and Georgiana Scott Muse of Stone Mountain, GA. He is also survived by one niece, Lara Atkinson Khan of New York City and eight nephews, Gregory Atkinson of Saint Paul, MN, David Atkinson of Dallas, TX, Zachary and Virgil Scott of San Francisco, CA, Carter and Thomas Muse of Stone Mountain, and Guy and Wells Scott of Athens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House, 1660 Jennings Mill Rd., Bogart, GA 30622 or Saint Joseph Catholic School, 985 Epps Bridge Pkwy, Athens, GA 30606.
