Gunter Daniell, age 100, died May 5, 2016. He was the son of the late Wattson and Hassie Daniell. In 1945, he married his beloved wife of 65 years, Anna Williams Daniell, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three brothers Y.H., Randolph, and Reese Daniell, and one sister, Martha Sue Turnbull.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Fordyce Mitchel of Wetumpka, AL, and a son, Thomas Daniell of Grapevine, Texas, He is also survived by four grandsons and their spouses: John (Christina), Scott, Jeff (Carla) Daniell, and Aaron (Marissa) Mitchel; nine great-grandchildren: Jordan (Philip) Ashford, Zachary (Olivia), JohnMark, Adam, Eli, Hunter, and Grace Daniell, Cormac and Margo Mitchel; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a graduate of Athens High School and served in World War II in the 8th Air Force, receiving the rank of Sargent and participating in the Air Offensive for Europe. He was a charter and lifetime member of the local VFW Post 9147. He worked for Texaco Distributors for over 35 years. Strong-willed with a feisty spirit, Gunter loved his wife, playing poker with friends at the VFW, and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10:00am at Lord and Stephens West Chapel with interment at Johnson Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday, May 9, 2016 at the funeral home.
