Gloria Jean Norris, 82, passed away peacefully after a long illness on July 6th, 2024.
Gloria was born on March 23, 1942, the only child of Surrena and Eugene Norris. She grew up in Bogart, Georgia, and graduated from Bogart High School in 1959 at the age of 17.
She began her collegiate career at Truett McConnell University before continuing her studies at the University of Georgia, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. Gloria went on to complete her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Development from Georgia State University.
A natural-born leader, Gloria served as the director of a childcare facility in Forsyth County early in her career. Her passion for children’s development and education, combined with her business acumen, led to a long and fruitful career with the publisher Perma-Bound Books. Her ability to form deep and meaningful connections fostered her success professionally and personally. Gloria cherished her plentiful friendships and was a true friend and confidante to many. Her home in Atlanta served as a welcoming oasis for friends and family, and she lavished her time and attention on her biological and adopted nieces and nephews, greatly enriching their lives.
Gloria was a self-determined, self-sufficient, and avant-garde Southern Belle—a steel magnolia and a classy lady who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She leaves behind her loving relatives: her uncle, Vernon Jackson, and his wife, Gwen; their children, Cherie Wright and her husband, Joey, and Tracy Jackson and his wife, Cindy; her cherished great-nephews and great-niece, Blake, Bryson and his wife, Lyndsey, Taylor Jackson, and Morgan Whittaker and her husband, Ryan; and their children, Jackson and Ansley Whittaker. Additionally, she leaves a large extended adopted family, including dear friends Nancy and Larry Whittington; Judy and William Rowland and their children, Susan Whittington, and Melisa and Todd Rowland. She was predeceased by her close friend, Sonya Hubbard.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for so many that provided such wonderful loving care for Gloria during her final days.
Gloria’s family will receive relatives and friends for visitation at 11 a.m. (EST) on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
