Gloria McCarty

Gloria Elaine McCarty, 67 died Friday, January 24, 2014 following a courageous battle to overcome multiple illnesses. She was a dedicated Christian that loved The Lord and believed that all things are possible through Him.
Born in Athens, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Garnett and Elizabeth Morrison McCarty
She graduated from Athens High School in 1966. She always enjoyed reconnecting with her friends by attending their class reunions. She worked as a typesetter and data processor for several companies, including the Athens Banner Herald. After many years in this profession, she chose a new path that would allow her to work for companies that did not confine her to an office. She loved to meet people and loved to travel. She worked for Acosta, a Marketing Company for Proctor and Gamble until 2011. After retiring she enjoyed working in her flower garden, she loved to laugh and dance and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her treasured friends and family. She loved the Georgia/Florida beaches. She has chosen Panama City Beach, FL as her final resting place.
She was very independent but a loyal friend and sister. She endured many illnesses over the last 2 years but always remained positive that she would regain her health and never accepted defeat.
She was preceded in death by her parents and survived by her sister, Brenda (Mark) Gunter, Farmington, GA, nephews, Jeff Smith, Brandon Smith, Trenton Smith, Wade Gunter, Natalie (Mark) Kirkley, who she loved as a niece and forever friends, Elder Bradberry, Debbie & Tony Darracott and Elaine Bradshaw.
A cremation and memorial service will be held at a later date.
