Athens, GA - Glenn Lamar Lewis was born in Kennesaw, GA on December 23, 1919 to Franklin Lamar and Thelma Russom Lewis. His family moved to Athens in 1929 where his father established Lamar Lewis Shoe Store on Clayton Street. Lamar was a 1937 graduate of Athens High School and a 1941 honor graduate of the University of Georgia, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He received his B.S. Degree in Business Administration and a commission into the United States Army where he served as Captain of a 34th Infantry Rifle Company during WW II. Following his service to his country, Lamar returned to Athens and entered into business with his father. Lamar served as President of Athens Little League, Trustee of GSEF (Georgia Students Educational Fund) and was a longtime member of Athens Rotary Club and Athens First Baptist Church.
Lamar was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen Bishop Lewis. He is survived by 2 sons, F. Lamar Lewis, Jr. and wife, Becky and Edward Eugene (Gene) Lewis and wife Tere; granddaughter, Amy Parrish; grandsons, F. Lamar Lewis, III, Ben Lewis and Joseph Lewis and great grandson, Edward Harper Parrish, all of Athens.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Jon Appleton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 355 Pulaski Street, Athens, GA 30601.
