Glenn Stark Bone, born April 27, 1925, in Ila, GA, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2012. He was the son of the late Robert Henry Bone and Pearl Glenn Bone of Ila, GA. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Bone Allen of Americus, GA, Lilly Merle Kesler of Athens; brother, Robert Franklin Bone of Cornelia, GA.
He served as a Private First Class in Germany during the WWII period. He received the victory medal, occupational medal and one bronze service star before being honorably discharged in July of 1949.
After the war he started Bone Construction Co. and was know as one of the top builders in Athens for 45 years. During his time building, he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Sanders Bone in 1964. They have been married for 47 years. He is also survived by his son, Robert Bone of Winterville, Ga. and daughter, Glennis Bone Thurmond (Wes) of Winterville, GA. Grandchildren: Evan Bone, Dylan Erwin, Brittany Bone, Brianna Bone and Weslynn Thurmond.
He loved his family and friends dearly.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 3PM at Lord and Stephens East Chapel with Rev. Phil Wages, Rev. Dan Fuller and Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8, Monday, April 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice House or to Winterville First Baptist Church.
