Gladys Jean (Arnold) Bassett

Gladys Jean Arnold Bassett "Jean", age 88, of Sanford, NC (formerly of Georgia), died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
She was born in Oglethorpe County, GA on October 8, 1928 to the late Percy Allen Arnold, Sr. and Minnie Grace Boggs Arnold. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Percy Bassett and siblings T.B. Arnold, Walter Vernon Arnold, Robert E. Arnold, Percy A. Arnold, Jr. and Frances Josephine Arnold Harvey. Jean was Ward Secretary for Washington, GA Hospital, Athens, GA Hospital, and St. Mary's Columbia Hospital. After retirement she also cared for people in their homes. She loved living in the country-side of Georgia and taking long walks in the woods.
She is survived by son George "Richard" Bassett and wife Gail Walker Bassett of Cheraw, SC; daughter Mary Barbara Bassett Buchanan of Sanford, NC; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
All funeral services will be held in Georgia. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 9, 2017, 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Indian Creek Bethany Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 1:00 PM with Rev. Virgil Suttles and Rev. Ervin Goss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
