George L. Russell Jr

Athens, GA - George Laurence Russell, Jr., 66, of Athens, GA, died May 13, 2010. He was born August 18, 1943 in Ionia, MI to the late Larry and Dorothy Russell. He was raised and educated there and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He retired from service after 22 years with the rank of LCDR while stationed at the Naval Supply Corps School. Following his naval service he retired from the University of Georgia where he managed Central Receiving / Central Office Supply and later served as the facilities manager for the Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; two children and spouses, Tim and Cambria Russell and Laurie and Marc Lewis; four siblings, Tonne Ganger, John Russell, Beth Russell, and Joe Russell; and four grandchildren, Joshua and Luke Lewis and Tony and Calder Russell.
A memorial service will be held 10 AM on Saturday, June 5th at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel with Brad Sullivan officiating. He will have a naval burial at sea. The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support at Athens Regional Medical Center.
