George F. Marshall, Jr., 62, of Athens, GA, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2006. He is survived by his wife Patricia R. Marshall and children, Sara, Jenny, and Andy who were close at hand providing love and encouragement. His unconditional love and support will be missed by all as well as his ability to laugh. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Waltham, MA. He earned his Bachelor of Arts at UMASS Amherst and an additional Bachelor of Foreign Trade from Thunderbird Business School in Arizona. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, George was an active Peace Corp volunteer for 2 years serving in Puerto Rico.
George spent 30 years of his career as a successful sales executive with Motorola, Inc. Upon relocation to Athens, he created his own business, North GA Wireless. He later returned to his true love of music with hopes and dreams to play around the Athens area. He will always be remembered as someone committed to his family. He instilled great values in his children through years of coaching, education and the importance of international culture. When friends think of George, they remember his love of music, playing his keyboard, reading, studying history, meeting new people, hearty conversation, Joseph Campbell, Universalist Unitarians, Al-Anon, Native American culture, the study of WW II and current events. He received great happiness from his beautiful wife Pat, being an entertainer, smiling, selling, his dog and garden.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2006, at 11:30 AM at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens ( UUFA), 780 Timothy Road, Athens, GA 30606. ( 706-546-7914). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UUFA.
A subsequent life celebration will be held in Massachusetts in the spring of 2006.
