Athens - George Houston Leyden Jr., 86, died March 18, 2006.
A native of Anniston, AL, he was a son of the late Nelle Milligan and George Houston Leyden, Sr., and the widower of Gaynelle Terrell Leyden. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where during World War II, he was a commander in the Tank Corp. in Africa and Italy. He was a graduate of the Citadel and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Mr. Leyden was proud of the fact that he once played in a circus band.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Covenant Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
Survivors include three children, Carol Warnes of Athens, Beth Britt of Southport, NC and George T. Leyden of Athens; two sisters, Betty Field and Mary Branyon, both of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren; one great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Citadel Scholarship Fund or the American Heart Association.
