George Hinton Watson (Trey) III

George Hinton (Trey) Watson III, 40, died on July 31, 2012, while vacationing in South Korea. Trey was born on November 8, 1971, in Athens, GA. He graduated from Cedar Shoals High School and attended West Georgia College, graduating from the University of Georgia in 1995. A life-long communicant of St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Athens, he was the first baby baptized in the newly formed parish. Trey was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Trey was especially interested in environmental causes, such as Rails to Trails. Throughout his life he enjoyed a love of soccer, developing his skills through play on Applejacks and Athens United teams; Trey continued playing and coaching soccer throughout his adult life. His love of travel and foreign cultures led him to visit every continent except Antarctica. Trey taught ESL for over 10 years in Asian schools and universities, most recently in China. Those who knew Trey well said he lived life to the fullest. A unique individual and free spirit, he was incredibly friendly and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Trey possessed the precious combination of good humor, steadfast loyalty and generosity of spirit. Trey is survived by his parents, Nancy and George Watson, Jr. of Athens; sisters, Leigh Trammell (Wesley) of Moreland, GA; Eliza Kirk (Dan) of Macon, GA; nephews, Dalton, Jake and Camden Trammell; and nieces, Gillian and Emma Jane Kirk; great aunt and uncle, Paralie and Gordon Hiles; Godparents, Charlesy and Gene Brown; and family pet, Bobcat. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at St. Gregory's Church on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Burial of ashes will immediately follow the service in St. Gregory's Memorial Garden. A reception will follow in the reception hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the St. Gregory's Endowment Fund, 3195 Barnett Shoals Rd. Athens, GA 30605.
