George Kelly Hill, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Manor Lake Memory Care, Athens, GA. A native of Franklin County, he was a son of the late George Kelly Hill, Sr. and the late Winnie Boles Hill Roach.
Mr. Hill was born in Canon, Georgia on January 24, 1950 and was a graduate of Franklin County High School in 1967. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and was very proud of his service of 5 years, 3 months and 29 days. George served overseas in South Korea at Camp Casey and in Germany at Fiori Kaesern.
After his U.S. Army service, he started working as a cable splicer with Empire Telephone Company. The company changed names over the years and when he retired after 40 years it was called Windstream Telephone Company. He had many wonderful memories with his friends and co-workers there and shared a lot of laughter and good times.
Over the years, George enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating on area lakes and deer hunting in the fall. He loved traveling all over the U.S. with his son following the Braves and looking for snow. He loved to camp on the lake and at the beach as well as Fort Wilderness at Disney World.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan Crenshaw Hill, and his son, George Kelly Hill III (Sabrina), a sister, Cheryl Hill Young (Fred), his grandson, Colton Walker Hill, and his brother-in-law, George Howard Crenshaw (Angela), and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Suzanne Williams, and his brother, Jimmy Lee Hill.
Funeral services will be held at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home East on Sunday, April 3rd at 3:00pm. Rev. Fred Young officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Lord & Stephens on April 3rd from 2:00pm-3:00pm.
Pallbearers: Howard Crenshaw, Dale Coker, Randy Wilson, Tony Chandler, Lee Bales, Jr. and Adam Bailey.
