George Franklin Farris, of Watkinsville, GA, passed away July 7, 2024. Franklin was born in Watkinsville, GA in 1941 to the late George Henry Farris, Jr. and Clara Mell McCree Farris.
Mr. Farris spent the majority of his life in Watkinsvlle, GA. Growing up, he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. Upon his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and completed several tours during the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, he married Brenda F. Allen (Farris-deceased) and became the owner of Oconee Auto Parts in downtown Watkinsville for a little over ten years. Upon the closing of that business, he worked in a management position with Nationwide Auto Parts from the early 1980s until the early 1990s, eventually moving to Center, GA. He continued to work part-time in the parts business, which had always been one of his passions. Upon his retirement, Mr. Farris moved to Sautee Nacoochee community, White County, GA, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Mr. Farris is survived by his son, George Stephen Farris (Corinne Garbe) of Bogart, GA; brother, John M. “Mac” Farris of Watkinsville, GA and nephew, John Ryan Farris (Linda) of Louisville, GA.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, July 20, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Johnson United Methodist Church, 1890 Flat Rock Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677 with Rev. Jeff Wilkes officiating. A gathering and celebration will follow at 3:00 PM at Akademia Brewing Company, 150 Crane Drive, Athens, GA 30606.
The family, though very appreciative, would like all to please refrain from providing gifts such as flowers and/or donations as an expression of condolences.
