George Thomas Conley

Athens, GA - George Thomas Conley, 88, died May 5, 2013.
Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late George R. and Cora Lacey Conley and was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Conley. Mr. Conley is survived by his sons, George William Conley and Wife Janet and David Conley and wife Sharon; 5 grandchildren, Karen Rowland, Leslie Daniel, Charlie Conley, Hillary Whiddon and J.D. Conley and 2 great grandchildren, Abie Rowland and Arlowen Whiddon.
Mr. Conley served his country in the 8th Army Air Force as an MP in England and Germany. He was retired from Heilig Meyers Furniture and was an accomplished artist and woodworker. He was a longtime member of Mars Hill Baptist Church where he was Deacon Emeritus and a member of the Golden Boys Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Charles Jones officiating. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
