Gene Ray Shepard

July 30, 1935 — February 5, 2016

Gene Ray Shepard, 80, of Watkinsville, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2016. He was born in Montgomery, West Virginia. Gene loved and served the Lord through his church, Watkinsville First Baptist as a deacon, trustee and active member since 1960. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia's Business School in 1963. He went to work for Georgia Department of Revenue's sales tax division in 1963 and remained there until he retired over 35 years later. Many families and children in the Watkinsville community knew and loved Mr. Gene as the devoted owner and operator of Shamrock Recreation Club. Gene also enjoyed spending time on the farm raising beef cattle. Gene is survived by his loving wife Kay Bishop Shepard of 55 years, his children Stephen (Michelle) Shepard, Kerry Shepard, Peggi (Josh) Caldwell and grandchildren Connor and Sydney Shepard, his loyal dog Katie, and a very loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents Glenna and Everett Shepard and his brother Pete Shepard. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Watkinsville First Baptist Church with Rev. Carlos Sibley officiating. A visitation will follow in the church café at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Acts 1:8 Mission Fund at Watkinsville First Baptist Church.
