Gayle A. Saylor

June 14, 1941 — January 29, 2022

Athens

Gayle Susan Adams Saylor passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday January 29, 2022.  Ms. Saylor was born on June 14, 1941 in Reading, PA to Paul Joel Adams and Grace Lottie Adams.  She graduated from Reading High School and worked as a switchboard operator for the Bell Company in Reading, PA until she married Theodore Heister Saylor on May 15, 1965.  After marriage, she and her husband Ted lived next to the family-owned Saylor-Weaver Pharmacy and later relocated to West Reading, PA.  In 1980, the Saylor family moved to Marietta, GA where Gayle worked as an administrative assistant while her husband attended Life Chiropractic College.  In 1985, the Saylors began a chiropractic practice in Athens, GA, and Gayle served as office manager until her retirement in 2013.  It was her great pleasure to serve patients in the Athens community through a 27-year career.

Ms. Saylor’s greatest joy in life was her family.  She adored her two daughters and four grandchildren and spent many weekends and holidays with them.  She could always be counted on to rock a baby, read a story, play games in the pool, search for seashells, or load a Nerf gun at a moment’s notice.  In addition, she had a passion for travel and visited places like Sedona, Arizona; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Paris, France; but no vacation spot ever matched her favorite St. George Island in Florida.  Her kindness, generosity, and unparalleled sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Ms. Saylor was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband Dr. Theodore H. Saylor.  She is survived by her companion Greg Bedell of Watkinsville, GA; her daughter Laura Saylor Kouns and husband John Robert of Roswell, GA; her daughter Amy Saylor BeMent and husband Tracy (T.J.) of Athens, GA; her four grandchildren; and her sisters Mrs. Judy Gombar and Ms. Janie Adams of Reading, PA.  A private family memorial service will be held later this year.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Athens Community Council on Aging at www.accaging.org.

Lord and Stephens, East is in charge of arrangements.
