Garnette (Shields) Smith

January 15, 1933 — February 2, 2016

Garnette Shields Smith, 83, wife of the late Bennie Mack Smith, died February 2, 2016. Born in Commerce, GA, resident of Ila, GA, she was the daughter of the late Garney Athaniel Shields and Colia Belle Culbertson Shields and sister to the late Sylvia Williams. She had worked in the Textile Industry most of her life as a seamstress and was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and truly loved being with her family. Survivors include her daughter: Judy (Marshall) Davis of Madison, GA; son: Johnny Mac (Donna Hanley) Smith of Ila; sister: Cumi Walker of Ila; brother: Junior (Maxine) Shields of Ila; grandchildren: Mitchell Davis and Clay (Ann) Davis; great grandchildren: Mason Davis and Danner Davis; several nieces and nephews and her caretakers: Donna Hanley, Sarah McCullough and Elaine Williams. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens Danielsville Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hicks and Rev. Kenneth Taylor. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel. Pallbearers will be Tim Shields, Mike Fitzpatrick, Bradley Hanley, Justin Hanley, Brandon Hanley and Kyle Lackey. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the funeral home. Flowers are optional or donations may be made to your favorite charity.
