A memorial service was held at Lord and Stephens East, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, Georgia on Sunday, March 3, 2019, with Reverend Brett Mask officiating.  Burial will be at Riverview Memorial Gardens in North Charleston, SC on Monday, March 4.

Gail, the first of four siblings, was born in 1942 in Charleston, SC to Lillian Willard and Jacob Calhoun Rowell. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, Charles F. Davis III. She is survived by her loving children, Charles F. Davis IV (Kathi); Martha Lynne Vivona (John); and Benjamin Paul Davis; and four grandchildren, Charles F. Davis V; Murphie Davis; Camille Vivona; and Max Vivona.  She is also survived by her siblings, Jake C. Rowell Jr. (Mary); Joyce R. Hall (Clyde); and Willard A. Rowell (Lynne).

After graduating from the Medical University School of Nursing (MUSC), Gail worked as a devoted nurse at Charleston Memorial Hospital in Charleston, SC for forty years, using her healing hands on both medical and surgical floors and retiring from medical records from the same hospital. She lived a devout Christian life and served as an active member and a youth leader for many years at John’s Island Presbyterian Church on John’s Island, SC. Gail enjoyed her family life in a creekside home on Wadmalaw Island, SC.  An excellent cook, she liked preparing large meals with her husband Charles for extended family and friends, using much of the available Lowcountry cuisine. She was an excellent seamstress and talented embroiderer, using her skills to make creations for her loved ones. With her kind spirit, Gail was always ready to help others in need and was known for her acts of loving kindness to her family and numerous friends.

In Gail’s retirement years, she made the decision to move to Stephens, Georgia to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Lexington, Georgia.  She was active with the youth there also, serving as a chaperone for a mission trip to Alaska.

The family would like to thank the caring team of nurses and technicians at Avery Place Assisted Living in Winterville, Georgia for their fine service to Mrs. Davis. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at 270 Peachtree Street, Suite 1040, Atlanta, GA 30303.
