Frieda C. Dekazos, age 79, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 from lung cancer.
Born in New York City, NY she was the daughter of James and Angelina Cochanes of Chicago, IL.
As a graduate of Northwestern University, the Anna Balatka Academy of Music and Roosevelt University, Frieda Dekazos had degrees in physics and mathematics, and was a concert pianist. She served for 25 years as a state statistician for the USDA Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service.
She was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother and wife, whose devotion extended to friends and church. Among her accomplishments was the establishment of the St. Philothea Greek Orthodox Church in Athens, GA. She was also active in programs concerning Alzheimer's and aging. She will be remembered as a dynamic lady who was always caring.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 18, 2008, at 11:00 AM at St. Philothea Greek Orthodox
Church, 3761 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to return to St. Philothea Church afterwards for a luncheon meal.
Survivors in addition to her husband, Dr. Elias D. Dekazos, include her sibling, John Cochanes of San Diego, CA; her children, Elena and Panos Dekazos, of Athens, GA; her grandchildren, Candace and Shana Fulton of Murrieta, CA; and, many other family members in the USA and Greece.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Philothea Greek Orthodox Church.
