Fred Rowe Yount, Jr.

Fred Rowe Yount Jr., born September 28, 1936 in Lexington, N.C. went to be with his heavenly Father on April 7, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents Clara Elenora and Fred Rowe Yount and his loving wife of 48 years, Carol Starr Yount. He is survived by his sisters Martha Leonard of Lexington N.C.; Gail Younts of Wilmington N.C.; his son Mark R. Yount, his wife Wendy and their three daughters, Anders, Grayson and Presley; and his daughter Amy Freeman, her husband Myles and daughter Isabella. Fred was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He took great pride in his family and spared nothing to show them constant love and kindness. Fred was a graduate of Lexington High, and afterwards spent four years in the U.S. Navy working in communications and surveillance. After the Navy, he spent the largest part of his career in the textile industry, working as an engineer around the southeast for Wilkins Industries of Athens, Ga., later serving as President of Apparel Finishers, and after retiring, spent 10 years couriering medical labs for Athens Regional/Piedmont Hospital. Fred loved a good dove shoot and anything related to fishing. He was a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves and would often sit on the phone with his sister Martha in N.C. and watch baseball together. Being from Lexington, N.C. Fred was a huge fan of bar-b-que and locally, his culinary sun rose and set on a chicken plate from Hot Thomas. Fred was an active member at Holy Cross Lutheran Church since moving his family to Athens in 1967. The Lord blessed Fred with 88 years of joyful life. His presence will be missed terribly by his family, but his spirit will live on in their hearts. Services for Mr. Yount will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 10AM at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5PM until 7PM at Lord and Stephens West.
