Fred Myers

Fred Myers, 92, of Athens died Wednesday June 27, 2012. He was born on May 29, 1920 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by parents Otis Roy and Era Johnson Myers. He was also preceded by brother Richard Myers, sister Laura Eloise Barron, and grandson David A. Myers.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Virginia, include children, Maria Bowman (Joe), Karen Senkbeil (Tom), and Anthony F. Myers (Mary), Grandchildren, Josh, Rachel, and Tanner Bowman, Lauren Swenson (Harris), Jeff Senkbeil, Barbara McGuire (Ken), and Scott Myers (Heidianna), and great grandchildren Kyra McGuire and Lindsley Swenson.
Fred graduated from Paris Mountain High School in Greenville S.C. as valedictorian, and went on to receive his B.S. at Georgia State and MBA at the University of Georgia. He also attended Emory Law School and was referred to as a "lifelong learner". He served in the Army Air Corps/ Air Force during WWII as a fighter pilot. Fred was a faithful member of Tuckston United Methodist Church involved with the Pathmakers Sunday School class, Chancel Choir, Joy Club and participated in Mountaintop Mission trips until he was 75. He retired from BellSouth after almost 50 years of service and was involved with the Telephone Pioneers organization. After retirement he became an avid member of the YWCO water aerobics.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Tuckston United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment will take place at the church cemetery with a reception following in the fellowship hall.
The family wishes to thank Mr. Fred's loving caregivers, Yevetta Thomas, Cynthia Hudson, Loretta Smith, Monacita Simmons, Samantha Carruth, Brianna Williams, Amanda Roberts, and St. Mary's Hospice nurse, Lori McLean. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tuckston United Methodist Church, 4175 Lexington Road, Athens GA, 30605.
