Athens - Fred Dorsey Dover died May 19, 2011, after a long illness. He was 95 years old on May 3. He was born in Habersham County to the late William Russell and Anna Ruth Dover. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, Rebecca Smelser Dover; a sister, Ruby Dover Lands; brothers, Kermit, Howard, and Russell; and stepson, Andrew Ott. Mr. Dover served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He moved to Athens in 1946 and was a sales representative for the Upjohn Company in the northeast Georgia area for 30 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a former elder. He was a founding member and first president of the Gaines Civitan Club and later Lt. Governor of the Civitan Clubs of Georgia. In 1971, he married Mary Ott, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and enjoyed 40 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Dennis Bosquet, of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, Niles and Diana Dover, of Brighton, Mich.; stepsons and spouses, Robert and Gatha Ott, of Cumming, and Alan and Amy Ott, of Austin, Texas; fifteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Campus View Church of Christ with Ron Powell and Joe Sisson officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mission Upreach, c/o Campus View Church of Christ, 1360 South Lumpkin Ave., Athens, GA 30605. Lord & Stephens East, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
