Franklin "Drew" Andrew McSwain

Franklin Andrew “Drew” McSwain, 72, of Watkinsville, died on Saturday, December 30, 2023.

Born in Marion, NC, Drew was the son of James Franklin McSwain and Mary “Betty” Purcell McSwain. Drew worked for many years as an over-the-road truck driver, though he had many varied and interesting jobs driving anything with wheels, including everything from a snowplow to a log truck to tour buses. He worked as an estimator for a grading company and even fought fires when he lived in Canada. His last job was as a school bus driver, a position he loved along with the kids he served. His interests could be summed up as planes, trains, and automobiles. He was a student pilot, and for some of their first dates, he thought his future wife Sharon would enjoy watching planes take off and land at the local airport. One of his last outings was going to an antique car show with his daughter, Angela, and his grandkids. He also loved music, especially singing, and he sang in the choir at Prince Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a member. Drew was a fun, energetic man who loved his family and his Lord, and he will be greatly missed.

Drew is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Miller McSwain; their four children and their spouses: Kimberly (Gary) Waters, Angela (Kristen Rohrer) McSwain, Shawn (Heather) McSwain and Chad McSwain; siblings Lanier (Rhonda) McSwain and Jeanne (Darrell) Thompson; and grandchildren: Alexander (Ariana) Waters, Katie (Jonathan) Cowan, Bennett McSwain-Rohrer, Fischer McSwain-Rohrer, Sophia York, Dylan York, Landon York, and Mason McSwain.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 2 at Lord and Stephens, West at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
