Franklin Nation, 86, died Thursday, July 11, 2013. A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late John A. and Sullie Whitlock Nation. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandson, Glen Gabriel; sisters: Sylvia Brown, Onie Ash, and Allie Handcock; brothers: Walter, Leroy, and Curley Nation. Frank was a machinist by trade for many years. He later retired from Logan Paving, but was always a farmer. He served his county in the US Navy during WWII and was a Baptist by faith. Frank was a county boy at heart and truly enjoyed life, especially his "Big Boy Toys." A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his wife Oneta Paul Nation; children: Barbara (Alton) Tucker, Janice (Gerry) Gabriel, Dianne (Winston) Westbrook, Paula (Keith) Wagnon; brother: Claude (Anne) Nation; sister: Minnie Robie; grandchildren: Melinda Lindmier, Ginger Baker, Tonya Dangerfield, Crystal Daniel, Rachael Priest, Nathan Wagnon, Michael Westbrook; 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 3PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Rev. John Parker officiating. Entombment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday at the funeral home. Lord & Stephens East is in charge of arrangements.
