Lt. Colonel Frank Dismore Shehulski, U.S. Army, Retired, age 82 died on Sat. April 20th, 2013. He was born June 6, 1930 San Antonio, TX to the late Frank Shehulski & Mary Menchaca. He lived in Texas until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in WWII where he served in Japan as a crash rescue fire fighter from 1946-1949. After service he attended the University of Georgia & earned his degree in marketing. While in Athens he married Dorothy Sue Marsengill of Clayton, GA.. From 1954 to 1961 he worked in insurance & was owner/operator of a service station in Athens. Frank completed officer candidate school & ranger/airborne school before serving in the Vietnam War. He later served as military attache in Thailand. Honors include National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star & 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, 4 Overseas Service Bars. After 27 years of service, he retired to Oconee County. He continued working taking a job as director of Clarke County pre-trial release program, where he worked from 1983 until he retired in 2000. Frank enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and cooking. He was an avid reader and collector of stamps, coins and antiques. He was a loving husband & father. His family will remember his love of Mozart, his great humor and sage advice. In addition to his parents & six siblings, Frank was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Timothy Shehulski. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Sue, son John, daughters Karen Tuton (John) and Lisa Storey (Kenneth), granddaughter Allison Tuton and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive family & friends at the Lord & Stephens West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd., Bogart, GA, on Fri. Apr. 26 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 2 p.m. also at Lord & Stephens West. Final interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Heart Association.
