Frank McHan, Ph.D., passed away November 10, 2015 after a short illness.
Following service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Dr. McHan earned his doctoral degree in Microbiology/Mycology at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He then proceeded to teach and conduct research at the University of California, Berkley. He moved to Athens when he accepted a research position with the USDA at the Richard Russel Research Center.
Dr. McHan is survived by his wife, Joyce Dudley McHan, daughter Diana Richardson, grandson Michael Richardson, brothers Tommy and Paul McHan and a sister Verna Conway. Family and friends will always remember Frank as a brilliant man who lived his life with strength, courage, and a compassionate heart.
A small family service was held November 11, 2015 at the Chapel at the St. Mary's Hospice House. Pastors Paul Baxley and Frank Grainger of the Athens First Baptist Church officiated.
