Frances Elizabeth Purcell, lovingly known as “Skipper,” passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on September 29, 1946, she was the cherished daughter of the late Lois Green Epps Sr. and Willie Raymond Epps Sr. Skipper is now reunited with them in heaven, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion.
She is survived by her beloved brother, Willie Raymond Epps Jr., her two sons, Jeff Purcell and Shane Purcell (Robin Purcell), and her cherished grandchildren: Jessica Adams (Tyler Alewine), Jennifer Plascencia (Daniel Plascencia), Victoria Grant (Fred Grant), Alexis Purcell, Coley Purcell, Blake Wall, Emily Wall, and Raylee Purcell. Skipper was also a proud great-grandmother to Lillyanna and Desmond Plascencia, Brewer and Fletcher Alewine, and was adored by numerous nieces, nephews, and her best friend, Connie Falconer, whose friendship was a true blessing.
Skipper retired from the University of Georgia, where she worked with dedication and care. But it was her role as a mother, grandmother, and friend that truly defined her. Her family meant the world to her, and she poured out her love and wisdom to all who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
Skipper’s life was one of service, compassion, and joy. She was a dedicated member of Whitehall Baptist Church and New Covenant in Athens, Georgia, where she served the Lord tirelessly. As a member of the Joyful Hearts, her beautiful voice filled the air with hymns that touched the hearts of all who heard them. Her faith was a guiding light for her family, and she leaves behind a profound impact on all who knew her.
As the beloved hymn Amazing Grace so beautifully proclaims:
"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see."
These words resonated deeply with Skipper, for she lived her life with a grace that was beyond measure. She was a beacon of hope and faith to all who knew her, and her love for the Lord and her family was unwavering.
Skipper’s life was a testament to the power of love and faith. She was a woman of unwavering kindness, always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand. She leaves behind not only a family but a community of friends whose lives were touched by her grace and warmth. Skipper’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be missed dearly.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024. Family will receive visitors in the sanctuary at Johnson Drive Baptist Church beginning at 3:00 p.m. and the memorial service will begin at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Skipper's honor.
