Frances Pope Lang of Athens passed away at Royston, Georgia on January 7, 2021, aged 81. Preceded in death by her husband, Donald Headdon Lang, she is survived by her son, Peter Wilson Lang, and her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Lang and Robert Christopher Fitzpatrick, and her beloved grandchildren, Joseph Evan and Alexandra Grace Lang, Peter's children.
Frances was born October 24, 1939, in Yonkers, New York to John Clifford and Mary Wilson Pope. She was raised in Scarsdale and spent her early adulthood in New York City and Long Island before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the late 1960's. She was a longtime resident of Vero Beach, Florida and came to Athens in 1994, when her husband retired. Frances had a successful career in real estate, lastly with Coldwell Banker and found enjoyment in her later years working at JoAnn's Fabric.
Embracing her Athens community, Frances was involved in many charitable organizations. An inveterate knitter, she created innumerable scarves, hats, prayer shawls, and baby blankets for those in need, sharing the same comfort and generosity of spirit with strangers that she brought to the lives of her family and many friends.
Due to the current situation, no local service is currently planned. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk, Virginia where she will rest next to her parents. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be directed to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank, 640 Barber Street, Athens, GA 30601.
