Frances Bolton Broach King passed away on April 5, 2025.
She was born August 15, 1925 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Raymond Charles and Helen Taylor Baumgartner Broach.
The family moved to Rome, GA in 1937 and she attended Neely School and she graduated from Girl’s High School. She then attended Tusculum College in Greenville, TN for one year and then transferred to Mercer University in Macon, GA where she received her Bachelors degree and then spent a year of graduate study at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.
Mrs. King’s work experience was next at Battey State Hospital, where she was the medical social worker. After one and a half years, she became a 4th grade teacher at Model Elementary School in Shannon, GA. At this time, she met and married Harold Watters King, a native of Adairsville, GA. Their marriage of 59 years was mainly in Rome before retirement and a move to Athens, GA
While in Rome, Mrs. King was active in her children’s School Parent organizations. These included Central Primary, East Rome Jr. and High Schools and West Rome Jr. and High Schools.
Mrs. King was a founding member of Mountain View Garden Club, on the board of Open Door Home, one of the early Pink Ladies at Floyd Hospital, and a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught 5-year-old Sunday School, was Circle Chairman and President of the Women of the Church.
In Athens, Mr. and Mrs. King were members of the First Presbyterian Church. She was co-chairman of a Church Circle and honored with a life membership in the Women of the church.
While in Athens, Mrs. King participated in University Women’s Club, a neighborhood Garden Club, and many bridge clubs.
Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Watters King, Daughter Helen King Miller, brothers Raymond A. Broach, William H. Broach, and sister Helen Broach Waller.
Survivors are her son, Harold B. King, Daughter Frances K. Rauschenberg, grandson Mattison K. Rauschenberg, granddaughter F. Taylor Rauschenberg, great grandson Lorne Rauschenberg and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A private service and burial will follow at a later date.
