Frances Shaw Alton

Frances Shaw Alton, 86 passed away on June 9, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospice House, Athens. A native of Tift County, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Bessie Shaw. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, M/SGT William D. Alton (USA) (RET); and brothers Everett, Forrest, Vernon, and Alton Shaw.
Mrs. Alton graduated from Tifton High School in Tifton, Ga. As a military dependent she traveled extensivley and lived in many states and overseas, but she primarily lived in the Augusta, Ga. area since 1964. She was a Department of the Army civilian worker at Fort Gordon, GA for twenty-five years retiring in 1991.
Mrs. Alton is survived by her son Colonel Ronnie D. Alton (USA) (RET) (Judith) of Statham, GA; Daughter Karen M. Paxson (Phillip) of Bishop, GA plus six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Alton will be 6 P.M. 10 June at Lord & Stephens (West) Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Blythe United Methodist Church, Blythe, GA. Visitation will be 5-6 P.M. 10 June at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Blythe United Methodist Church, Church Street, Blythe, GA 30805.
