Fern W. Chin

Athens - Fern W. Chin, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 83, on Saturday, May 16, 2009. Mrs. Chin, born in Portland, Maine, was a resident of Athens for more than 39 years. She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Edward Chin, retired UGA faculty; and her children, Edward, Jr., of Augusta and his wife Joan Robertson, Jean Ellen of Watkinsville and her husband, Randal Walker, Kathryn Joy of Long Island, NY, and her husband Robert Schwartz, and James V. of Bogart and his wife Audrey Haynes; grandchildren Caitlin J. Walker, Jonathan W. Chin and Samuel E. Chin; and nieces and nephews in North Carolina and New England. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, 6 to 8 P.M., at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Road, in Athens. A private memorial service will be held Friday, May 22. Her ashes will be interred in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
