Francis Boyd Andrews, 81, died September 19, 2015.
Boyd was born in Osyka, Mississippi on March 26, 1934. He was the son of Robert Sitmon Andrews and Althea Andrews.
Boyd is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Marilyn, and his children, Andrea Fraser (Curt) of Buford, GA; Randy Andrews (Karin) of Watkinsville, GA; and Kevin Andrews (Susan) of Fresno, CA; and his grandchildren, Drew Fraser (Amber), Jake Fraser and Kane Fraser, all of Buford, GA; Scott Andrews, Paige Andrews and Bryan Andrews, all of Watkinsville; Heather Andrews of San Angelo, TX; Emily Andrews of College Station, TX; and one great-grandson, Isaiah Hendon. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert Andrews (Marcey) of Beaufort, SC and Donald Andrews (Sandi) of Copperas Cove, TX; and his sister Patsy Andrews Langthorp (Mike) of Spring, TX. And numerous nieces and nephews.
Boyd graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. and M.S. Degree in Agricultural Economics. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1956 in Japan and Korea. He began his career at Texas A&M University in the Department of Agricultural Economics. In 1967 he moved with his family to Athens, GA, and was employed by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service as a District Agent, first in Recreation and Tourism and later in Agriculture. His territory was the thirteen North Georgia Counties until his retirement in 1991. He thought he had the best job in the University as long as he worked for the Extension Service.
Boyd was a member of the Classic City Lions Club and served as their President for two different terms. He was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church for forty-eight years. He served as Head Usher for eighteen years. He served as Church Treasurer for three years, was Finance Committee Chairman, Administrative Board Chairman, and was on the Board of Trustees. He taught Disciple Bible Study classes, was President of his Gatekeeper Sunday School class as well as one of the teachers and was a co-founder of the Bread of Life Club and served as their President for seven years. He and Marilyn organized trips in the United States and overseas for Tuckston members from 1993-2003. The joy of the Lord was his strength.
A memorial service will be held at Tuckston United Methodist Church on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bill Jackson and Rev. James Mooneyhan officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tuckston United Methodist Church Building Fund.
