Evelyn Rebecca Hix

Evelyn Rebecca "Becky" Hix, 83, of Cherokee Road in Winterville passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

Becky was the daughter of the late Vadie and Tishie Burroughs of Commerce, GA. She retired from Clarke County School District after working 40 years in food service. She spent most of those years at Cedar Shoals High School.

She is survived by her sons, Jeff Hix (Caryn Demorest) of Athens, Doug Hix (Kim Hix) of Simpsonville, S.C.; daughter Sharon Hix (Tina Hix) of Winterville; and grandchildren Zachery Lewis Hix and Kelsie Elizabeth Hix of Simpsonville, S.C. Other survivors include her sister and best friend Martha Jean Sweetser of Athens, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Neal Hix of Commerce, GA. They were married for 54 years and they shared a love of camping, traveling and sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Herman, and sisters Frances, Helen, and Peggy.

Becky loved her family and she loved to celebrate life. She was at home in her kitchen cooking one of her “famous meals” for someone she loved.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 12, at Lord and Stephens, East Chapel at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow the service at Jackson Memorial Gardens in Commerce. The family requests that masks be worn for the visitation and service.
