Evelyn Drawdy Stewart, born August 10, 1938, passed away peacefully at her home in Athens, GA, on March 30, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born in Berrien County, GA, Evelyn was the daughter of Perry Moore Drawdy and Lena Clements Drawdy.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald Keiffer Stewart; her daughters, Angela Stewart DeLorme (Dean), Jayne Stewart Hunter (Larry), and Jill Elaine Stewart; her grandchildren, Ashley Panter, Kelsey Lance (Cody), Nicholas Hunter (Deana), Benton Hunter, and Olivia Stewart Hoosh; her great-grandchildren, Branson Lance, and Sutton Lance; and all the grandpets she adored.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Sherman Drawdy, Pauline Wetherington, Perry Moore Drawdy, Jr., Alvin Drawdy, Carson Drawdy, James Drawdy, and Benjamin Drawdy.
A graduate of Berrien County High School, Evelyn was an accomplished basketball player, scoring over 375 points (averaging 22 points per game), serving as Captain of the Region 2-A-S championship basketball team, and being voted "Most Athletic Female" by her senior class. She attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), where she also played basketball, and later earned her degree from the University of Georgia, graduating Cum Laude.
Throughout her professional life, Evelyn excelled as a Realtor and later as a Court Mediator, where her dedication and skill left a lasting impact. However, her greatest accomplishment was her unwavering devotion as a wife, mother, and beloved grandmother. Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, Evelyn cherished her family beyond measure.
Those fortunate enough to know and love Evelyn would describe her as kind, polite, loyal, witty, ambitious, and funny. She was known for making the best biscuits, chicken 'n dumplings, and divinity, and she had an endless appreciation for the simple pleasures of life: hushpuppies, banana pudding, coconut cake, and sweet tea.
Evelyn lived a rich, full life marked by travel, education, laughter, and being present for her family’s most significant moments. Her love and generosity will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
