Lexington - Eunice Thaxton Holmes, 86, died April 27, 2009.
Born in Oglethorpe County, she was the daughter of the late Eddie and Lucy Patton Thaxton. Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Holmes; and grandsons, Wade and Ward Gabriel. She was retired from Westinghouse and was a member of Lighthouse Evangelical Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Marilyn (Billy) Gabriel of Comer, Florine (John) White of Crawford, Sandra (William) Colquitt of Lexington, Jimmy (Betty) Holmes of Wilmer, Ala., and Stanley (Lynne) Holmes of Comer; brother, Lewis Thaxton of Athens; sisters, Murrell James of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gaynelle Norris of Oakwood; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Lighthouse Evangelical Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Morgan officiating. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Gabriel, Wesley Gabriel, Steven Colquitt, Brandon Colquitt, Christopher Parsons, Michael Sims, Bob McElhannon, Jonathan Huff and Garrett McElhannon.
The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Lord and Stephens Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
