Eugenia (Gene) Langdale entered into eternal rest on March 31, 2014. A native of Marion, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late George F. Boatwright and Eugenia Miles Boatwright of Marion, South Carolina. Mrs. Langdale grew up in Marion, South Carolina and taught school for many years. She graduated from Coker College (Cum Laude) in Hartsville, South Carolina with a Major in Bible and a Minor in History and Music. She also graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Cum Laude) with a Master's of Religious Education. In the early 1950's, women were not permitted to take advanced Master of Divinity courses with men. Gene however, following her call from God, refused to abide by that policy and attended all classes anyway. In doing so, she helped pave the way for Baptist women years later to answer their calling and serve as full-fledged clergy.
Mrs. Langdale was a long-time member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church where she served as Director of WMU, Director and teacher of Vacation Bible School, and taught adults and children in Sunday school for many years. She visited and witnessed to many of the people in her neighborhood. She was a dedicated Christian who believed firmly in missions at home, in the State and to the ends of the earth. She enjoyed music, reading and her Sunday school class. She also taught children in Baptist Training Union. She witnessed to children at school for 20 years with her Christian ideals and influence. She loved God first, her church, her family and her friends. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Dr. George W. Langdale. Survivors include her nephews, Mark Boatwright (Tracy); Blake Boatwright (Jackie); and niece Jeannie Boatwright, all of Columbia, South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church at 2:30PM on Thursday, April 3, 2014. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The Deacons of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Milledge Avenue Baptist Church for Missions and Music or Baptist Student Union at the University of Georgia.
