Eugenia "Gene" Inez Martin

Eugenia Inez Martin, lovingly known as "Gene," passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on March 13, 1928, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, Gene was a cherished homemaker and dedicated housewife who made a profound impact on the lives of her family and community.

Gene's journey brought her to Watkinsville in 1963, where she and her husband Cecil purchased Sweet Acres Farm. Together, they raised their five children, instilling in them the values of hard work and the importance of family, as they created countless memories. Gene took immense pride in nurturing her family, and her love was a guiding light in their lives.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, and she actively participated in her community. Known for her kindness, Gene frequently visited shut-ins, spreading joy and friendship to those in need. She was a proud of her Native American heritage, which was a source of pride throughout her life.

Gene was also a devoted member of the Watkinsville First Baptist Church, where she attended services until she was no longer able. Her faith played a pivotal role in her life, shaping her into the compassionate and loving person she was.

She is survived by her five children: Donna (Danny) Davis of Bishop, Pam (Gene) Misenhamer of Bishop, Jeff Martin of Athens, Rex (Suzette) Martin of Buford, and Joy (Donald) Bloom of Gainesville, GA. Gene's legacy continues with her 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, who carry forward her spirit of love and kindness.

Gene was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Lonnie Mitchell and Inez Sims Mitchell, as well as her brothers, Diemmer and Doyle Mitchell, and her sisters, Guynelle Davis and Betty Winningham.

Visitation will take place on April 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, both held at the First Baptist Church of Watkinsville, located at 1610 Simonton Bridge Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Interment will follow at Oconee Memorial Park.
