Eugene "Gene" Thomas Stroup

Eugene Thomas “Gene” Stroup, 94, husband of 59 years to Mary Frances Stroup, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. Born in Cairo, IL, Gene was the son of the late William Newton Stroup and Gracie Mae Stroup of Canton, NC. He was also preceded in death by his son: Patrick William Stroup; grandson: Matthew Stroup; brother: William N. Stroup, Jr.  and a sister, Marilyn Pressley. Gene retired from the US Navy after 21 years and following his Navy career he worked for the University of Georgia Research Services for 21 years. He was an active member of New Life Apostolic Church and was a Volunteer Fireman. He loved good food, golfing, hunting and fishing, bowling, softball, music, college football and dancing. He played the ukulele and guitar and was always the life of the party. In addition to his wife, survivors include his son and daughter in law: Michael Eugene (Dorsey) Stroup; grandchildren: Allison Nicole (Chip) Clarke, Amy Marie (Bill) Loeber; Travis Eugene (Jessica) Stroup; great grandchildren: Harper Clarke, Emma Loeber, Kyle Loeber and Madeline Stroup; brother: Danny (Georgianna) Stroup and sisters: Deloris “Tincy” Rickman and Audrey Howell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11AM at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East Chapel. Interment will follow at Center Methodist Church Cemetery, Stephens, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Apostolic Church, Watkinsville, GA.
