On December 15, 1929, Eugene Francis Malcolm, Jr., was born to the late Eugene Francis Malcolm, Sr. and Mattie Florence Mitchell Malcolm in West Palm Beach, Fl. On June 09, 1943, his family moved to Newborn, Ga. The family moved to Monroe, Ga in 1944 and lived there for seven years before moving to Athens, Ga in 1951. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Geography. His mother preceded his father in death in 1974, and his father passed away in 1988.
He moved to Washington, D.C. In 1952 where he worked in the map services department for the military. He lived there for fifteen years before returning to Athens, Ga in 1967. He was a longtime member of The TRR Cobb Camp of The Sons of Confederate Veterans where he enjoyed discussing the confederacy.
He started his employment with the Georgia Department of Labor on Friday, February 06, 1978, and he worked faithfully for 41 years. He had many friends at the Georgia Department of Labor in Athens that he called his family. Mr. Malcolm loved history, especially pertaining to the South. He had an incredible memory and never ceased to amaze his friends on details of facts related to history. He was a true friend to anyone fortunate to know him.
He leaves us with cherished memories.
