Etta Jewel Sosbee
February 26, 1941 to November 9, 2021
Prominent Athens restauranteur Etta Sosbee passes away peacefully after suffering from complications of dementia and pneumonia. Most Athens restaurant-goers will remember Etta’s years as she managed the Davis Brothers Cafeteria on Milledge Ave from the day it opened until it closed so many years later. Her fried chicken and sweet tea were so amazing that country music artist, Colt Ford sang a song about them. Etta then purchased and re-opened Baileys Diner on Lexington Hwy where her homemade biscuits and baked chicken became famous among her regulars. ETTA later sold her restaurant and finished her career running the Athens area Burger Kings until she retired after her 50-year career in the Athens restaurant scene.
Etta is survived by her daughter Tracie Sosbee Harden, son n law Chris Harden, granddaughters Pilar (Cody) Pilcher and great grandson Riggins Pilcher), and Hannah Jewell Harden (Jonathan Hughes). Nieces; Elaine Bridges Payne(Johnny) and Kathy Tittle. Brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Sally Peters.
